How did China beat America in any way? The only medals they won were by judges who gave generous scores because China was the hosting country.
America is going to win overall, and we will dominate swimming especially.

You would have to understand the history of NBA basketball. Most of these guys were considered the greatest players, not just of their generation, but of all-time.

I never really understood why their winning margins were so impressive. Basketball was not nearly the global game then that it is today. Croatia (the silver medal team) only had 6 NBA players, and only two of them had were in the league for longer than a few seasons. When put up against a team with 11 of the greatest players to ever play, it really isn't a surprise that they won games so comfortably.

I'm not really trying to undermine the accomplishments of the Dream Team. I just think that lots of their popularity had to do with other things than their on play. Circumstances at the time had a lot to do with it.
