So I made a post in mememes thread but I'll make it here too, shall all of these be of new games? The well of new games is drying up..

I'd rather have a solid base of all sorts of games than just new ones, otherwise there won't be much to post on the possible review section. Review whatever game you want as long as the review is well written like mememe's.

I'd also love to see discussions about the actual game going on in these threads, if possible.

I think that if this were to take off, we would need a kind of system, almost like dtoid, maybe not as serious, but have like someone who makes good reviews, review the game in the first 3 to 4 days, then have smaller reviews around 3 days after it, so more traffic goes to the best review...

Just read your posts in my thread but thought I'd reply in this one. I'd be more than willing to write more seeing as how well received my review of Journey was, I could maybe do a couple a month (obviously depending on the releases of that month). I believe 'I am Alive' comes out in a week or two, that will most likely be my next review. An extra sub forum for reviews could really take off and could maybe open up for something like game guides or trophy/achievement guides. I think we've started a great thing here guys.

Game guides/walkthroughs/achievments are something I'd be very excited about, tips and shit for games is usually something I'm good at...

I see your forum post is using logic? Too bad you\'re on Hupit, where logic isn\'t accepted as a valid premiss to an argument.

I'd rather want you to have actually played the games you review. You can't judge game mechanics and the actual fun factor of games just by watching someone else playing. Commentary over Let's Plays also influences your opinion... so...^^

Personally I would love to see a lot more indie games reviewed, because triple A titles don't get released often enough and are mostly not that worth to review, because it's the same jazz every year, if you think about all the game series that get released every year over and over again.

If we can get Hupit seriously back on track and in the direction it needs to go, we could have some serious impact on the popularity of some of the indie games, too.

I'll talk to Sasben about it, once I got some spare time today.

I imagine the system to work like this for example:

We have a database, accessible via the front page and through the "Content" tab, from there it leads you to the different threads for each game (guide/walkthrough/article/review). That way people can actually interact and give their opinion on 'em, unlike with the actual article section (I know that's been requested long time ago).

As was stated in other threads, we need some official content creators, because obviously not everyone is qualified and has the soft skills to write proper quality posts. With the actual forum software (I bet we'll never get rid of it... <.<) we could make people forum specific moderators who are the only ones allowed to open threads in that Review/Article/whatever sub-forum, while normal users can still post in threads though.

I don't know if joomla can handle it, but I bet there's a way to auto update the game/review/article database, once a thread is posted.

More ideas?

I was gonna do a SFxT review this weekend, but my work schedule has been crazy. I have not had a chance to play online yet and I probably wont be able to until tomorrow morning/night cause I work from 3-10 tonight. I have messed around with most of the characters, beaten the single player a couple of times, and messed around with the gem system.

Ill try to get it up by tomorrow morning.

I think it would be preferable to have reviews under a seperate tab under the content page, so they feel slightly more official. But a forum where just threads can be posted by 'official' content makers works well too.

I would like to put myself forward to being an editor type person who proofreads guides/reviews, if it comes to that later down the line. I can be mind-numbingly pedantic on grammar if I want to be sometimes

I'll be the first admit that my spelling and grammar fails sometimes. So its probably for the best if we do have an editor of some sort, someone who can look over the stuff that the content creators put forward. This could also tie in with what Dyer said in the op, if we have 2 or more of the same review, the editor could pick the better one.

Okay, I am finally home, sorry for the long waiting time- here's the update:

First of all, we need "official" active content creators, who write articles, reviews and post gaming news. Creating our own content becomes important for the social media part. Places like twitter and facebook can be used for advertising our own content which will attract new people to check out Hupit in the long run, once we got that running.

That's what I am already doing with those reviews, I post them on twitter and already got positive feedback. So that's a winner. Advertising our community events, like tournaments, awards, etc. will increase activity as well. People love to comment on the interwebs, so we need to give them content to do so, eventually they'll check out the rest of the forums as well.

What Ross and I were brainstorming after my original idea was simply to replace the "General Gaming" forum with "Gaming News, Articles and Reviews", because all the things people post in General Gaming can also be posted in "Other Games".

How that new forum could work:

If you take the marketplace as an example... everyone can post in there, but mods need to verify threads first before they get published.

We used to have forum specific moderators who could only moderate threads in their specific sections. That's where you content creators would get some more responsibilities. First of all, we could rename that forum spec. moderator rank to "Content Creator" or something like that. Your job would not only be constantly providing the website with your own articles and reviews and news (never ever forget to post the source ), but also reviewing normal user content and deciding whether their post is worth publishing or not.

It is obvious that you guys can't work 24/7 on articles etc. so it would be nice to have the rest of the community get involved as well, but obviously not everyone is capable of writing whilst we need a certain quality standard.

If they produce good enough content, they'll get their recognition and of course, if certain people constantly provide good enough content, they can be promoted to "Content Creators" as well.

How does that sound?
