Ran across a NGT video (Not even sure how I got to there channel) and they linked a article that showed the pre order numbers so far for Halo and CoD BO 2.

Anyway I soon realized that Halo for is MURDERING CoD in pre order sales with more pre orders than BO2 on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 combined.

CoD being outsold by something in the same genre would be a bit odd

What do you think the cause is for this?

Did you not see what Halo 3 did to the people waiting at the malls to buy the games. It was ridiculous how long the queues have been.

It's not odd at all Halo has the bigger hardcore fanbase.

That's just in the USA. I'd save judgement until we at least get a Europe chart to compare.

Some halo fans hoping for that this new halo game is much like halo 3 but with little bit tweaks in the mp engine they use.

Another thing Assassin Creed 3 has more pre orders than everybody so far because of the American Revolution and most non-gamers that now nothing about the previous game or the the main character Desmond Miles. While you have the people who know about the series when it first started and come to love it.

Doesn't mean much. The vast majority of CoD players are too casual to pre-order, so...

A year ago we were talking about how BF3 was beating MW3 in pre-sales. MW3 became the fastest piece of entertainment to gross $1 Billion, beating Avatar by a day or two.

Black Ops 2 will still sell more, Halo 4 is on Xbox only, Blops2 will be at the very least on Xbox, PS3 and PC and there is usually a Wii version

Besides, until the games are actually released, no one can be %100 which one out-grossed the other in sales.
Not to mention, Halo has more content, such as those little figure models, clothing (Cod has a few), controllers, etc.
Halo has been around for 2 more years than Cod (2001 vs. 2003, right?) and Halo was popular by the very first game, I don't believe COD was nearly as popular by their initial release (I'm talking about Finest Hour, I forgot there was a PC one before it).
COD didn't become extremely popular until COD 2 (technically the fourth installment, as opposed to Halo's first) brought some nice multiplayer to the table.
In the long run, if Halo 4 is anything like Halo 3 (specifically the forge), then the community will just create new maps and mini-games, something Blops 2 cannot possibly hope to compete with.
In the short run, Blops 2 might win, in the long run Halo 4 will crush them. My prediction.

I don't worry too much about which outsells or has more pre orders. i just buy the game I like and the number fall where they may.

P.S. The new Assassins Creed does look like a great game!

I am not a professional in video game sales analysis but I think I might have an answer for this one. It seems that people are tiring of the call of duty circus that happens year in and year out. When you think about it, the negative reviews on call of duty modern warfare 3 come in from veterans and it reaches the new potential buyers. This happens every year. On the other hand, Halo doesn't have a regular release per year. So people have been playing halo reach for 2 years. This anticipation boils up with much faster than Call of Duty because there has been a longer period since the last release. Sorry for not being direct but I hope you see my point.

As for sales I would assume that CoD takes the overall crown because it is multi-platform.

Cod is one of the games that go insane at the midnight release and the following days. I'm as hardcore as they get, and I have never pre-ordered a cod game. Also a lot of people are waiting out to see what the prestige and/or hardened versions are going to be.

I'm pretty sure Halo can't beat the collective sales of Xbox and PS3 and PC combined even if it does have a hardcore fan base. I still haven't pre-ordered yet.

Yeah, I haven't preordered BO2 yet.

I guess people are getting bored of CoD and want something different.

As a Halo based player at heart, I can tell you why.

Realize that a lot of Cod players used to play Halo - during the Halo 3 days. Halo Reach was a bit of a disappointment and as such, a lot less players played Halo and chose Cod during the 2009, 2010 and 2011 times. Most of the players who played Halo 3 hope that Halo 4 is similar, and since it's a direct sequel, they want it.


That, and the fact that Halo 4 was announced about a bit over a year before BO2.

This is exactly what happens every year because a massive section of CoD's playerbase doesn't preorder.

CoD will still outsell Halo by a mile, rest assured.
