Same here with the old LoG. I bought all of LoGs albums at fye except for wrath for about 25 bucks and bundles with my pair of Grado Sr60s that have finally been broken in, the songs sound incredible. I knew Chris Adler was amazing, but holy shit his earlie NAG stuff was unreal. My favorite album is Ashes of the Wake and that whole album is flawless in terms of his drumming. Ive also found some songs that I overlooked before for some reason like one gun, blood of the scribe, boot scraper, vigil, etc. It probably had something to do with me only have a 4gb ipod back then so I probably just got like 10-15 songs I really liked by LoG then skipped the rest, now Im glad I have space for every song I like.

Also, anyone a fan of 80s powermetal? Iron Maiden is my favorite metal band ever and I have to thank my uncle for introducing me to Helloween, I seriously think that keeper of the seven keys part 2 is one of the greatest metal albums ever and Walls of Jericho is amazing for a debut album, Id say on par with Kill em All and might even be better.

Song starts at 1 minute

I really need to start listening to more metal. I have heard of Tool, Trivium, Between the buried and me etc but never really looked into them. So far I really liked the songs InFlamez recommended from trivium and I just looked up a few Tool songs on a whim yesterday and liked them too. Whats a good Tool album to start with? I decided to get Ascendancy and Shogun from Trivium cause I heard about 3 tracks from each and liked them but have no idea where to start with Tool.

Oh, forgot to link a vid.

One of my favorite openings to a album, I was surprised at how much I loved Unto the Locust considering I liked some Machine Head before but was never a big fan. Tied with Agony as my favorite Metal album this year.

My favorite Tool albums are

1. Lateralus
2. 10,000 Days
3. Aenima

In that order. I can also recommend many songs from said albums. Tool <3

HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA, I'm laughing my fucking ass of. This ignorant scene-kid just made my day. God, how laughable. MTH and AA are shitty metalcore, just like the rest of the bands he posted (except for Parkway Drive, because they're great live). And then Pianos Become The Teeth is not screamo :').

Funny ignorant troll is funny and ignorant.

Its cool to see you're enjoying Trivium. They're one of my favorites.

I'm not really familiar with genres but is anyone into Symphony X? I've been greatly into their music for about a month now.

Yeah apparently in the scene it's cool to pretend like you aren't a core band

speaking of core bands, sorta dig some of the riffs in within the ruins album, creature.

also, the tool recommendations were spot on. listen to tool in long sequences.

edit: i think the fact that AA starts their song with a 40 second breakdown, then 20 seconds later goes into another 40 second breakdown says enough about them.

I would like some core bands if it wasnt for the fucking breakdowns. I really enjoy Carnifex for example and their tempo changes and stuff, but once the songs starts going, a breakdown comes up and completely takes away the momentum they built during the song.

Also hearing that Asking Alexandra song that dude linked made me want to smash my face into my monitor. I fucking LOL'd when I heard the two breakdowns within the first minute, then the last two minutes were basically another long breakdown. So fucking terrible.

Also, apparently Megadeth has released two new album in the last two years. I heard parts of the new one released in november....not impressed. Ill just continue to pretend like Megadeth hasnt released a album since Countdown to Extinction.

One of my early favorite Trivium songs.

I love this song, especially the solo.

This a great progressive track by Trivium.

Always liked VoM...well...common man's collapse anyways. Techdeath + a bit of core is alright by me. The 2+ minute breakdowns are a bit odd at first but I appreciated them once I realized how many changes of tempo/time signature/note pattern they use. it's not just a 4:3 chug fest, which is neat

First of all BMTH isn't screamo... jeez learn your sub-genres...

We've got Metal
Metalcore
Hardcore
Heavy Metal
Black Metal
Death Metal
Grind metal
grindcore
Death grind
Black Death Metal
Emo
Grunge Metal
Thrash Metal
Screamo

and the there's damn Glam metal... also known as hair metal. This isn't even a full list as far as I know. BMTH is Death Metal. Try Suicide Silence and you've got Death Grind. Screamo is just emo with completely unrecognizable lyrics.

Anyways, can't go wrong with Machine Head:

listen to their new album... it's epic.

I could go on forever like this but frankly, I \\\\\\\'d get bored...

I forgot Progressive metal,Deathcore but that's the post I can think of... unless you want sub-sub-catagories

One of my favourite BMTH songs:

Also Machine Head is touring right now. At the closest stop to me at least they're headlining with suicide silence.

Emo is is own genre which is completely unrelated to metal and screamo is a fusion of the two, not a sub genre to be picky that is.

With that being said most sub genres aren't needed and people need to stop creating a genre for every song that doesn't match another genre to a pin.

too true...

I almost forgot techno metal, electric metal.... F it I refuse to list anymore

And personally Emo is kind of like grunge and hardcore mixed then Screamo is more like grunge and grindcore/black death metal

The funny part is there is almost no difference between any of the genres I listed... you could really split them in to 2 catagories and just tell glam metal to screw off.

So I started listening to Trivium more. Thier Shogun album is fucking amazing.

The chorus is absolutely incredible. And at 4:50 it's played so it repeats. Such a great song.

Also, I thought I'd bless everybody's ears with some folk metal while I'm here. I remember a while ago Slie was awesome enough to show me folk metal and I loved it right from the start. Here's one of the sub-genre's best songs.
