When I try to run forward it doesn't let me fully go forward, so I can barely sprint. I'm going to go return it later, but my question is, should I buy one at Walmart, Gamestop or any other store? Is there a store that has better quality controllers, or is just that I got a defective one?

Just buy an official 360 controller. If you already did, sounds like you had a dodgy one. The quality of the genuine controllers will be the same from store to store so it wont make any difference.
