On popular demand lol 3 people I decided to make an official MGS thread. What makes it official? I have no clue.
Here you can disucss any topics related to Metal Gear (Solid) such as the game, artwork, story/plot, philosophies within the game and all other discussion like "What is your favourite MGS title?" or "Solid Snake or Naked Snake?".
I am pretty knowledgeable on this topic and can answer almost any question related to the games, novels and comic so ask!
If you haven't played Metal Gear Solid or any other stealth game I highly recommend you to play it. Even with its "bad" and "old" graphics the game is just a must for any gamer out there IMO and I personally think older games leave more room for imagination which is way better than super good graphics.
Hope we can get a discussion started here otherwise I will be really sad
Putting official on things just stops a repeat thread I guess.
To kick things off
Do you think they'll ever create a game that goes back and explains some of The Boss's story line? I would love some WW2 style MGS, its great to see how MGS interprets historical events such as the cold war.

Will they do it? IDK Kojima is a crazy man, but he knows when to stop with a series. Sucking money from a series that is almost over is pointless to me and I think to him too.
In any case the fan in me always hoped for more character developement of The Boss. She was one of the few character who didn't get as much exposure as I would've liked it to be. Maybe Kojima could make it into a PSP title like MGS Peace Walker. I mean she is the only reason why people tried to change the world after the incident in MGS 3. She is the reason why the Patriots were born and why Liquid tried to build Outer H(e)aven in MGS 1.
Basically she is a the key to a lot of things and that is why I would really like to see her in a prequel.

Exactly, I really think the boss needs a lot more back story, and as you mentioned, as the story is nearly finished I guess the only way they can really go is backward.

So I'd like to share some of my opinions on the MGS titles.
My favourtie MGS game would be either MGS 1 or 4 because of Solid Snake. Many people like Naked Snake more than the clone, but I prefer him. Solid accomplished in his short life much more than Big Boss.
The crisis in Sansibar Land (Metal Gear), Shadow Moses (Metal Gear Solid 1), Outer Haven (Metal Gear Solid 2) and the destruction of SoP in MGS4.
Overall he is a tough son of a bitch. Who ever would make it through a path full of microwaves. His character developement than anyone else in MGS.
Naked Snake is a tool used by the American government. He didn't care for his friends such as The Boss or Zero. He would've killed everyone of them without hesitation if the instruction came directly from the President. Solid is not much different for a long time, but he manages to free himself from the chains that made him into a slave of his government and fought for his own interest. Solid would've never killed Otacon for example.
Also I heared in an interview that Kojima likes Solid more than Big Boss.
I think Big Boss lost his eye a little bit different than MGS 3 tells us. He must've been a retard lol.
EDIT : Shit forgot about the PSP titles with Big Boss. I guess he had some more depth to it, but still it's nothing compared to Solid.
I bought the HD collection, played through 2 again and about half way through 3... I suck so bad at MGS that it's not even funny.
Whats your main problem, playing stealth or the controls, which seems to be the 2 main reasons do badly
I just suck at the stealth-y parts of the game. I usually get spotted and so then run through an area super quick and have to camp it out, waiting for the reinforcements to go. And aiming with the guns is really awkward.

As long as you play on the easier difficulties you shouldn't have much hard work. Even if the enemies spot you just try to get rid of them ASAP. You will get used to the mechanics eventually. If you can't sneak pass by them -> kill them or use tranq bullets. You can approach every situation in so many ways. The choices are sometimes endless.
Just reminds me how helpless I was when trying to shoot a Nikita missile in MGS1 when I was 5 years old. It was god damn impossible for me to click all those buttons at one time. Useless uncoordinated child body.
In an interview with french games magazine IG, Hideo Kojima has said that his team is "not yet finished with Solid Snake"
He said that Metal Gear Rising never claimed to be a Metal Gear Solid game because it doesn't feature Snake, it is a spin-off that tries something different. He also said that he's not yet finished with Solid Snake even though he originally wanted Snake to die at the end of MGS4. Seeing as how Snakes story ended nicely in MGS4 I don't see this being a direct sequel.
So what does this mean? PSM3 has looked at the MGS timeline and has predicted that the game could take place in 1970's Africa and maybe include the birth of Solid Snake this means the game might take place in (or around) the Les Enfant Terribles project.

This kinda of fits in with my idea that the only way MGS can go foward is back, they seriously can't progress Solid Snake too much futher, so they would have to explain more backstories, I was saying how I would love to see a game based around The boss and her backstory, like how she fought in WW2 etc.

There was actually a rumour going around a while back that MGS5 was going to be the Boss' backstory during WW2. I guess this kinda trumps that rumour but I guess its an idea for MGS6 if Kojima is up for it.

I am following David Hayter's livestream ( the voice of Solid Snake ) and he made always little hintss that MGS isn't over. I was not sure if he was just talking about MG Rising, but now it seems a little bit more possible.
I've been having a bit of discussion with some guy on that YouTube video about where the series can go. He started off by saying can it be an MGS4 direct sequel? I replied with basically what I've already said, he then said he thought it was going to be 'The Boss prequel' rumour. I said that was the old rumour, now that Kojima's confirmed that it will include Solid Snake that that rumour can't be true.
So it got me thinking, where can the MGS series go for future games? We already have;
-The Boss prequel
-MGS3 sequel
Where else could the series go?
I'd personally like to see an MGS2 direct sequel leading up to the beginning of MGS4. I can't remember the time gap between the 2 games but I'd imagine it was a good decade or so. It could be about Snake chasing down Liquid Ocelot but also having to deal with the accelerated ageing.

MGS2 was 2008 and MGS4 was 2014, I'm pretty sure that is at least.

Thought it might have been something like that. Haven't played MGS4 in a LONG time.
I'm not going to let this thread die so soon lol let's try and get some sort of discussion going.
Let's talk collectibles.
I've started playing MGS2 again, I've been wondering how do you get the dogtags that aren't from bosses? I've never really gone for them. I know where all the camo's are in MGS3 as well as most of the kerotans, I don't think there's anything in MGS4 other than the dolls but I could be wrong, g0ggy will probably know because I remember him saying he's played it about 44 times.
There is not really THAT much if you already have the Solar Gun. BTW this weapon is also from a game made by Kojima for the DS. Forgot what it's called, but it's also a stealth game. Something like Solar Knight I think
To really get 100% you would need all animal names which is a fucking incredible task, but I managed to make it. Then you can get all weapons available. There are some weapons you can only unlock by typing in a code. Face camos from the B&B corps and the Big Boss face camo with his skin ripped off.
The invisibility thingy and the bandana would also count towards the 100% ... Hmm the camera and the extended batteries for the MK II during the cutscenes in the airplane that you can get and all the secret photos like in MGS1.
Can't remember anything else right now. You could count the easter eggs as collectibles if you are really that obsessed, but that's a little overkill.
Forgot about the B&B face paints, I don't think I ever got the Big Boss one. I wouldn't really count the weapons as collectibles because they're bought rather than found, but that's just me.
