So I've started playing this game courtesy of PS+ and I'm about an hour or so in in the Boletarian Palace. So far this game is pretty amazing especially with it being such an old game now but I realise it's going to get a LOT harder.

First thing, what is the best starting class? I picked the Wanderer because his stats seemed to be the most balanced between the Priest and Magician but you don't get any magic which I'm guessing will be key in harder fights. I'm just wondering if I made a good choice of character to start with, I'll probably stick with him for now but in case I want to start again or for future playthroughs, it'll be good to know.

Second, general combat tips? I know that enemies will get a lot harder and they will be in larger numbers, so far it's just been 1-on-1 combat with weak enemies but how would I deal with tougher enemies and in groups? 1-on-1 combat seems to be the way to go to beat enemies so how would I separate groups into manageable encounters?
