I just have a quick question. I recently picked up a copy of Mass Effect 1 ( yeah i know i am a bit behind), and the combat system is just really confusing. The game doesn't teach you much on the combat system. I was wondering if anyone could explain a little bit on how to work it, or if someone has a link about it i would appreciate it.

Well, more importantly, what is it about the combat system that throws you off. For the most part, the game is similar to something say like, Gears of War. Take cover and fire. If you are refering to the skills in the game, it depends on what class you picked. One thing I had to get used to was, don't forget to use your squadmates, they can really help you out. And don't forget the command menu for the squadmates. Sometimes they'll go Kamekazie and you'll be left on your own. It's tough to a hang on the mechanics but you'll get it.

Very well put. Just like any RPG certain skill sets and certain abilities complement each other more. Depending on what class you play as, everything will be different. And as you get further into the game, things become much more explanatory. Just remember: Everything has a weakness. And if you don't have what it takes to beat that weakness, it's highly likely one of your squad does. I'll go ahead and advise that if you aren't playing as a biotic, to always have one in your party.
Bear in mind whatever you just read was posted by a guy who couldn\\\'t pick up a woman in Las Vegas with 10 Grand strapped to his head.

Just sayin, ive played and beat ME1 9 times and played and beat ME2 5 times, and both go a little something like this: Easy - normal difficulty any class is op, personally most fun class is pure biotics with both and on the first game, if you want it to be a friggan cake walk, go wrex and liara as squad mates and max out everyones warp, push, and lift abilities ASAP, on the hardest difficulties, if you use anything but the soldier/assassin(sniper) class you are setting yourself up for failure, literally does the most damage without hitting anythine with warp (which does something around the area of 70% increase in damage with all weapons and attacks, which becomes useless on harder difficulties beacuse it doesnt WOOOOOOOOOOORK >.>) If your playing on hard like a real man, stay the hell away from the enemies, do every side quest you can to get levels, make sure you teck up someones abilities to do the lock hacking and the tech salvaging (cant remember what those be in the first one, youll figure it out.)
GL

If youre not playing with me on BC2, youre probably not going to like me. Do I care? Not really.

I just want to preface this by saying in terms of combat, ME2 blows ME1 out of the water. ME1's combat system was very awkward I agree with you.

You have 3 basic categories of combat:

1. Guns - these are definitely the dominant form of combat in ME1. You will have the easiest road through the game if you just focus on shooting everybody.

2. Biotics - these are my personal favorite. You either have to use the biotics menu or you can map a power to a button. They are a little more difficult to use, but a hell of a lot of fun.

3. Tech- in ME1, tech is virtually useless in my opinion. I have played a couple tech playthroughs and it is definitely the most difficult to use and least effective.

If you are just looking for pure combat, just go get mass effect 2. Mass Effect 1's beauty comes through the story and dialog.

I played my first time through as an Engineer. Wasn't bad. ME2 is a huge improvement over the first one. Personally, I like the other classes in these games. I say DON'T pick the soldier because there isn't anything, but shooting, involved. You're selling yourself short if you're not exploring the different types of abilities that are in the game. It definately makes it more fun.

I agree soldier is pretty lame. My favorite class is Adept.

Stick to soldier in ME1, the biotic abilities are really awkward to use, but switch it up in ME2 since the abilities are useful and fun to use.
