IMO fallout 3 is better than new vegas, new vegas doesn't seem to catch me the way fallout 3 did

Ironically, New Vegas is a much better Fallout game than FO3.It's truer to Fallout lore and I feel like I'm actually in the Fallout universe when playing NV whereas with FO3 I just don't get that.

NV is more along the lines of 1 and 2, but I don't see how you can compare it to 3. In 3 the design and writing is vastly superior, something interesting always happen no matter where you went or what quest you were doing. NV never really got my attention like that (outside of maybe a few instances) I just felt like I was doing the generic rpg quest with fallout 3's gameplay. I never felt like I had a motivation to continue on (oh i want revenge and political powers want to use me, whatever) where as 3 I felt the main character had a purpose the entire time and I wanted to see what all the world had to offer.

Fallout 3 also has the greatest soundtrack of all time imo.

I'll agree that FO3 has a better story but that still doesn't make it feel like a Fallout game. Don't get me wrong FO3 is a great game but I prefer NV because as I said before, it's a lot closer to FO lore than FO3 was which makes it more enjoyable to me. Plus you can play the game multiple times and have a completely different ending everytime, FO3 has two endings, one for each karmic path.

I prefer the songs in NV tbh, but Three Dog is better than Mr. New Vegas so I'll give you that.

I only played the original Fallout after having played FO3 and NV, and honestly I didn't really enjoy it. Whilst it's easy to go back and play old games that you loved as a kid as a game that I hadn't I didn't really like it.

I prefered NV first time through but having later revisited FO3 I enjoyed it more.

I really enjoyed Fallout 3's apocolyptic feel but after you completed the two endings there really was nothing to do.

I thought that New Vegas lasted longer than 3 because of the many endings and it had better dialogue.

With the Explorer perk all the locations show up on your map so after finishing FO3 and in the case of NV finishing it multiple times, I just went and explored every single location in the game and did any quests I came across, killed anything that moved, and grabbed any unique weapons I could find.

Then there's always DLC to keep you busy.

Out of interest what is everyone's favourite DLC? I really liked Honest Hearts but I have yet to play Old World Blues, debating whether to get that or Danwguard for Skyrim.

Old World Blues was really good. Really good Fallout style humour in there. Hands down best New Vegas DLC probably best Fallout DLC as well. Point Lookout was definitely the best Fallout 3 DLC.

I didn't like Broken Steel. It kind of ruined the ending of the game. I have a feeling they only did that so people would stop crying about the the game ending AFTER THE ENDING. I mean what did people expect to happen, you're sealed in a room filled with radiation. Of course your characters going to die. It wasn't like it was a bad ending or anything that left things unanswered. So I don't get why people complained.

So following up on DLC's, would you recommend Old World Blues for Fallout or Dawnguard for Skyrim, I'm into both and I can only get so many MC points.

As a Fallout fan, I'd suggest Old World Blues. Definitely the best Fallout DLC in my opinion. I can't speak for Dawnguard because it's not on PS3 yet but we do have a review up by CreamyGoodness.

Got Fallout 3 yesterday, and after some time of not knowing what I'm meant to be doing I'm starting to get the hang of it. I have a question regarding random encounters, specifically at the start of the game. MisterDyselxo mentioned a 'Type A' random encounter directly behind the exit to Vault 101 and that I should save before activating it. Is there anything in particular I should get from this random encounter? Thus far I've come up against packs of dogs and moles, 2 different deathclaw encounters (one of which giving me the schematics for the deathclaw gauntlet, but I'm not a melee/unarmed character) and 2 hitmen that carried a note about some Tenpenny guy that had some decent armour and laser pistols.

EDIT: Ants also.

I haven't played Fallout 3 in a long time but I did go on the Fallout wiki and it only listed 1 type A encounter near Vault 101.

On the top of the hill westwards near the highway, there is a farmhouse with the event. Any approach will work.

This one is a type B:
Follow the road south until passing between the highway remains and the pillar, where the road turns W. Then go back on the road, the event is halfway between Vault 101 and the water tower.

Both of these are listed as Vault 101 encounters. The wiki doesn't say what should get out of these but saving prior to the encounter is recommended because there are multiple outcomes and you can reload if don't get the one you want. Sorry I can't be much more help

fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_random_encounters

List of all random encounters.

Going back to DLC discussion. The reason I liked Broken Steel is I didn't have to suspend the main quest line to go galivanting around. Kind of nulls the immersion when I'm trying to find little Timmy's tricycle when I know that what I really would be doing is saving the Capital Wasteland but I can't do that because it would end the game.

Albino on PC or console?

Console. I'm not asking where random encounters are, I'm asking if there is anything specific I should try to get from them at the start of the game.

I don't really recall any important random encounters that give you ultra powerful stuff tbh. If you just started playing I'd highly recommend looking up the unmarked quest "Jigg's Loot" as the AR you get from it is incredibly powerful. Also, it might help to get the Ghoul mask early from the Tenpenny Tower quest (not to be confused with The Power of the Atom quest). Mothership Zeta is also a good DLC to start cos you get pretty cool weapons on it though there's a chance you won't be able to get one of the more powerful unique energy weapon, MPLX Novasurge, cos your hacking skills (I think) is unlikely to be high enough to open the safe if you're a low level, and you won't be able to revisit that particular area of the ship once the DLC is completed).

So just installed NV on the old PC, dropped 200 if not more hours on it on PS3, just wanting to know what some good mods are, thanks in advance.

Are you looking for mods that improve current gameplay or mods that change some aspects?
Anyway from what I can see "newvegas.nexusmods.com" has a lot of different fun mods.

Either or, yeah I've already grabbed a heap off the NV nexus. Do you use any badger, and if so what would you recommend?

My PC isn't good enough to run Fallout yet (Hopefully a new graphics card for my birthday) but I'd say get some mods that improve chat size, the way the inventory is laid out etc..

Might be worth a try, my old computer ran FO3 with just onboard graphics.

Presently I have:

FOOK
Project Nevada
Military Backpacks
rePopulated Wasteland
Weapon Mod Expansion
Nevada Skies
TGS Armour Collection
World of Pain
Beauty Project
Fellout
Ghoul Zombies
More Grass
Clean Up New Vegas
Essential Visual Enhancements
Mission Mojave UE

and half a dozen individual weapon and armour mods.

In the process of getting a mod that let's it run on 4GB of memory as it's pretty unstable at the moment with all the mods and I'm getting infrequent crashes (games fault, not my PC). Once I've done that I'll get NMC's texture pack.

Doesn't seem to be as much support in the modding community for this game as there was for FO3. Also I never had crashes on PC for F03 with just as many mods and that was on a stock computer. Now I've got one I built with two GeForce 660's in crossfire, i7 processor etc etc and it'll fuck up every 40-60 minutes.

Does anyone have any good side quests to do right off the bat on fallout nv? I have the ultimate version if it helps.
