TOPIC: Tips needed for the engagement.

Tips needed for the engagement. 1 year, 6 months ago #583199

One thing I'm struggling with is the 50/50 engagement.
Having come from COD, it was pretty simple:
-Pre-Fire from the hip to get a couple bullets in early.
-ADS and hopefully finish the guy off because the ADS was not given any random offset.

On BF3 it goes more like this:
-Pre-Fire from the hip and get a couple bullets in early.
-ADS to find that I'm not aiming at the guy due to the random ADS offset.
-Try to line my target up again but lose valuable time.
-Die more often than not.

Also, if I choose to ADS first, I usually die just as often. For those that play both BF and COD, how do you get around this and how does your gun style differ in the 50/50 engagement on either game? Particularly in the way you handle hip fire and ADS. BF3 isn't the only FPS I've played with that heavy feel, I did better on Killzone 3 than I'm doing on BF3.
Let\'s be clear, I am by no means implying that the lady in question selfishly prefers to associate herself with those that boast a favourable financial status. But it is clear to me that she has far less time for those that have, for whatever reason, fallen on hard times.

Well I play both, and until MW3, was fairly effective at both. (I've only put about 3 hours into MW3, but just now managing to even be an asset to my team, other than letting them know where I was killed from, lol).

I tend to use the same shooting mechanics as you in CoD. But I not in BF3. Generally you are not close quarters, so I tend to wait, get my shot lined, then fire. You've got to know when it's worth taking the shot and when it's not.
In close quarters, I tend to just stay at the hip.

Mainly, the difference should not be in firing as much, but in how you move. Screw fair fights, be patient and sneaky, get up behind enemies or engage the enemies firing on your teammates.

I have not noticed the issue you have been having, but I think maybe taking better advantage of cover and map navigation could help. You sound like you have a good handle on aim and accuracy, so, you're probably just engaging people with weapons of higher damage or they have cover when you do not. Or possibly engaging multiple enemies at once by yourself.

Instead of worrying about the gun mechanics, you could try navigating the map differently and see if that helps.

Good luck

Yeah I know what you mean about deciding whether or not to fire. I often let enemies go by if they're running from a flag I'm about to cap from under them anyway.

My playing style is pretty defensive as a rule. I prefer flanking. I'm certainly not what you would call a rusher though i am pretty agressive towards the objective. It's the genuine 50/50 engagement when you both catch sight of each other at the same time, with the same class of gun, with just as much cover and distraction.

So you haven't noticed how harsh the sensitivity on ADS is?

Bf3 doesn't have sticky auto-aim like CoD, maybe that's screwing you up?

EDIT: You're on Ps3 right? PS3 has issues with controller input lag or something like that. They're going to fix it with the next patch or at least that'a what Dice has said.

I hope it's the input lag too. I'd read all the threads about it on other forums but I just thought that what I was experiencing was all part of the weighty BF feel. I just tested the difference in resolution settings and there's definitely a different feel. I'm on 576p or whatever the lowest setting is but it's better than before. The downside is that the graphics suck and if someone is shooting at me from behind cover I'm in trouble, but at the face to face gunfight, it's a lot better.

If I think its a 50-50 situation I'll hit the dirt or get behind cover then try and get somewhere that gives me an advantage. Worst case scenario and there's nowhere to go, just make sure you tag them so your team can finish them off if you're unlucky.
